In my last lesson we learnt how to lip synch. We were also given a mini tutorial on how to make perfect match cuts of the lip synch. This involved making a number of base tracks and using the razor tool to cut out sections of the film and tracks that I didn’t need. I was unaware of the fact that I could cut out sound. So that was something new that I learnt.
I also learnt that in order to make things easier and make a perfect match cut of the lip synch I had to sing along not just move mime. In our groups, we were given the song ‘boogie nights’ along with the lyrics to sing along to. We had to take pictures and record what we did. I found this activity fun although it got a little annoying having to repeat singing the song.
In my group we had to think of choreography to go along with the song as well as of various angles we could film from. High angle, low angle, close up etc.
I didn’t find anything challenging. I actually found it quite easy to make a perfect match cut of the lip synch. I developed my own technique which I was unaware I could do, which is make a perfect lip synch by eye.
I have always said I hate editing but I noticed there is an obvious difference between editing in music videos compared to editing a thriller film opening which is that, it is much easier and straight forward. It just involves laying out your videos, cutting with the razor tool and matching to song. Although i make it sound so easy,It actually involves a lot of focus. I suspect that the bit I will find challenging is finding the right shots to put together in order for the video to flow with the song.
