Boogie Nights !!
In today's lesson me and my group were given the 1970's karaoke song Boogie Nights, a CD player and a large sheet of lyrics to in order to practice lip-syncing. We had approximately 2 hours to film and edit our sequence together, using the skills we learnt in the lip sync edit tutorial we had the lesson before.
In the lip syncing tutorial I learnt how to use Final Cut Pro to match the song with the lip movement by marking the precise spot with an 'm' where the sound matches the movement and action of the artist/s, which is a new tool I've learnt to use on Final Cut Pro. I practiced messing around applying different shot types and angles and putting it together keeping in mind match cuts. The most challenging part of this task was trying to make the match cuts look believable. Through my observations, editing music videos compared to editing thriller openings are quite different. In music video editing, trying to get the soundtrack in sync with the action is the hard part as there are various time lines all over the place, whereas with thriller films there is one timeline and the editing is all done at once.
I will need this skill when creating my music video to make the singing in sync with the action it look realistic.
Below are some still images from the Boogie Nights shoot:
