Lip Sync Tutorial - Lesson 4

In todays lesson we had to use our previous lip syncing experience to make a preliminary music video to the disco hit 'Boogie Nights'. I learnt how to incorporate the markers into the video at the right time in order to get accurate lip synching. As well as using the razor tool on Final Cut Pro to not only cut unwanted video out but also unwanted soundtracks out.

What i found most challenging about our first take on making the music videos was being able to make the perfect match cuts as with only having a single camera, we had to do 7 takes trying to replicate the previous but in different camera angles and it gave us problem when it came to editing. This is a task we'll have to face when doing the real thing.

There are various differences between editing for film and editing for a music video. In the film the soundtrack was different from the original video therefore our only task was to make sure the match cuts were put in place well, however when editing for a music video all aspects must be in sync unless it will look terrible.

Making sure the video is sync with the characters singing. Making sure the character is actually singing to make it easier to mark the points. All these make continuity editing alot harder than when we were making thriller filming as even moving to early to too late could interrupt the continuity of the video and make certain editing look like jump cuts rather than match cuts.
