I walk alone from 283goswell on Vimeo.
I feel this video is a product of bad research when it comes to ideas of props, locations and costume that could have been used in it. The lip synch is great so is the edit because there has been use of various shots and angles but more could have been done in order for the video to flow better with the genre of the music. The video looks out of place at times due to the main artist not having a band to play with him when he sings in the dark room. It reminds me of a very well done karaoke rather than a video which I feel is a weakness. The group could have found another way to film him rather than have him stand on his own singing and throwing things around in the dark room. My point is that it is obvious the band is missing. You hear the band play but can’t see them.
The costume is also out of place. Little has been done to make the artist to look like the character he is trying to portray. It is obvious he has been dressed according to his own sense of style. The way he would look on a normal day. So therefore another weakness in this video is the costume. Apart from this the singer has put effort into his acting skills and its obvious he has learnt the lyrics to the song.
The illustrated story in the video has a nonlinear and lonely narrative structure. The genre is rock but nothing from the video gives me any clues, which therefore makes it unclear who the target audience is which is another weakness of this video. However the video follows the key characteristics identified by Andrew Goodwin which is that there is repetition of frames and the video uses the singer both as narrator and as character and the singer looks directly at the camera.
I love the way a variety of shots such as medium close up, side view, long shot spinning/circular shots have been incorporated into the video making the video interesting to watch. This in my opinion is the main strength of the video as well as the excellent lip synch.
