Andrew Goodwin Examples

Amplification:

The music video of "A Thousand Miles" by "Vanessa Carlton" is a good example of amplification, because the song has the instrument of a piano in but the songs lyrics do not mention anything about someone being able to travel along the street whilst playing the piano but in the music video that is the only use of transportation that she uses and this creates amplification to the meaning of the song and makes the emphasis of the piano sound much greater within the video.

Amplification is when the music video introduces newer meanings to the video that don't contradict with the songs lyrics however just keeps on building layers of the lyrics intentions and adding newer meanings to the video.

Illustration:

Illustration is when there is literally an interpretation form the lyrics which is projected onto the video.

The music video for "When I'm Gone" by "Eminem" is a great example of a music video which uses illustration as it's main theme for the songs lyrics, because the narrative in the vocals make the video come to life and give the video great meaning and the best part of the song is when Eminem say "No literally given an arm for" and the camera show Eminem roll up his arms sleeve and show a tattoo dedicated to his daughter with a tattoo term for getting his whole are tattooed is a (sleeve).

Disjuncture:

Amplification is when in the music video there is very little or no connection at all between the lyrics in the song and video for the song.

In the music video of "Before I Die" by "Professor Green" there is very little connection between the lyrics and the video which is about professor Green acting in some crazy scenarios like being strangled with a belt but not mentioning this in the lyrics but at the same time he is dieing in all of the scenarios which is what the song is about.

The video has very fast cuts that go with the beat which also is a for of Disjuncture within the video.
