(Question 4)

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

In my own opinion I feel that me and my group have come together and produced an amazing piece of work with the music video along with each of our own digipaks and advertisement products.

This is a link to Vimeo with the audiences views, comments and ratings about my video but as you can see no one has yet rated or commented on my video so far, but I think that it is just because they have not yet found the video and been able to see it.

One thing that I think I could have done to make the music video better I feel is that I could have made changes to the way in which we tried to represent Keith Tyler as an angelic figure rather than people questioning whether he is either there or not.

Another thing I feel I could have changed is that I think I should have made the artist play the guitar during the music video to give continuity from the music video - the digipak - the advertisement.

(Question 3)

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Before we could begin to start our filming for the music video we  made an animatic storyboard to help our teachers see our idea about what we want to produce in our music video. We used Final Cut Pro and Apple Mac computers.

EVALUATION Q4

  • What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I just want to mention that i got my feedback from a controlled audience rather than my target audience so therefore their feedback might be different from that of my actual target audience. However the overall feedback was, i feel quite good.

Due to the feedback that i got from my audience i have come up with some improvements that i could make to my advert which are:
  • Increase the size of my album on my advert so it is more obvious to the audience therefore easier for them to make a link between the advert and the album especially for audience who have seen the advert and not the album.
  • Make important aspects of my numerical text standout e.g. one of my audience commented on the numerical text and couldn't really read it. I feel this is bad on my part because she couldn't read part of the most important information which was the release date. I think this was due to the fact that the colour of my text and the background colour  blend in well together. Next time i would pick a colour for the text that really stands out from the background so its more obvious.
  • The audience feedback on my final product has allowed me to look at my final products in a different light. Thing is because i spent so much time constructing my final products i didn't feel my final product was anything special because i had gotten so used to it. However now due to the audience feedback i feel my final product is actually of a high standard and i am proud of the hard work that i and my group put into everything.
Here is a clip of audience feedback right after they had watched it at the cinema.

Watch the 2 minute video below to see what kind of response the video got...

evaluation - question four

EVALUATION - Q4
What have you learned from your audience feedback?

This short video clip is the audience's reaction that I filmed after the viewing. I wanted to get responses while the video was still quite fresh in the audience's memory.

As seen in the clip, a common response is on the storyline of my music video. 'I liked the storyline' and 'The storyline in particular': two quotes taken from viewers. I'm very pleased with that comment as a lot of thought was put into the narrative of the video and I particularly wanted the storyline to be well received.
I am also very happy about the ratings people  gave the video, ranging from eight a half to thirteen out of 10!!

I filmed this next clip after showing a group of people my digipak, advert and video as a whole product, asking them to tell me what they might change about my video. I did this to gain understanding about what the audience didn't really think worked and to learn what I could improve to make the products even more successful.

The black, white and grey digipak was liked because it was simple and "original" however, adding a bit of colour like I did on the advert with the yellow star ratings would improve it.
I learned that the link between the digipak and advert to the music video is clear through colour. I was worried that people wouldn't understand the concept of the guitar as it wasn't included in the music video, so I'm pleased it is clearly portrayed and shows the representation of "pop/rock genre".
Also of course, the "face on image" of the artist, Keith Tyler on the digipak.
One thing I wasn't quite sure on though, was the size of Tyler's album cover on the advert. I wanted to find a way to include a recognisable image of him. I now understand that it could be seen as something else, for example a "toy" so making it slightly bigger would improve my product.
Overall, I a very pleased with the feedback and ratings I got for all my products!!

evaluation - question three

EVALUATION - Q3
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

This is a short animated voice over of me explaining what aspects of media technology I used during my project. To make this clip, I recorded my voice using a video camera and editing it using Final Cut Pro. I used Live Type to add text and the Internet to get most of the images used in the clip. I also logged into Vimeo and used screen grabs from my video. Lastly, I used Handbrake to make the file small enough to be uploaded onto my Blogger. These programs are all essential aspects of media technology!

EVALUATION Q3

  • How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

During the planning of my final products I used the internet (google) to help with my research for images of logos, digipaks and adverts.

How did use it? I basically typed into the search box the name of the logo I wanted clicked image at the top left corner of the screen and clicked google search.

With the help of the internet and msn hotmail I was able to send out an email asking for copy right permission.

I also used YouTube to watch various videos that I felt would be good for I and my group to make a video of.
How did I use it? I basically just typed the name of a song into the search box and clicked search.
With the help of final cut pro I and my group put together a digital story board of our music video. We done this by taking pictures of what we felt each scene of our video would look like then uploaded our shots into final cut pro, where we put a base track of the song Fix you which we got from the internet. By producing a digital story board we provide everyone with a rough idea on what our video was going to look like.
Digital story Board

With the help of blogger I documented everything I did, from research to planning. In order to do this i had to sign into blogger then i had to click on view blogg to find my group. once i found my group i clicked on it which lead me into my group's page. To start a new blog i had to click on new post and begin.

For the filming of the video I used a video camera without a memory card we couldn't film.

EVALUATION Q2

  •           How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)
I believe my promotional package successfully makes clear visual links in various ways:

There is an obvious link between my video as well as my ancillary products. My video kicks off with a medium shot of the artist while the front cover of my didgipak has a close up shot of the artist.

My digipak has Keith Tyler’s profile shot on the CD while my advert ‘s main picture is the same as the picture on my CD and to add to that, at the beginning of my video is a profile shot of Keith Tyler singing. This therefore allows the audience to make a link between the video digipak and advert.

Plus my advert has an image of the album front cover through this my audience can definitely recognise them as linked products.
I have made a clear visual link between my digipak and advert by:
    • Using the color blue where ever I can e.g. text, effects added to the images.
    • Using the same fonts.
    • Allowing Keith Tyler stand out from the rest.

    Evaluation

    (Question 2)

How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)?

For my audience to establish Keith Tyler as an artist and the creator of the song "Fix You" I have made a visual links between the video and ancillary products (digipak and advertisement).

I got the idea of my artist in a relaxed sitting down position from my music video above where the artist is casually sitting but without the guitar, which I have added to the digipak and advertisement products.

I have used a mild colour scheme for all of the products (music video, digipak and advertisement) so that the audience can make the link between each product to the artist, which promotes the artist "Keith Tyler". I have kept his attire similar to the music video so that the audience can again relate to the artists dress sense (visual link) also the artist wears black, white and grey in all of the products.
In the music video I do not have the artist shown playing or with a musical instrument but in the digipak and advertisement products the artist is holding a guitar and there are many musical instruments linked with the products, which if I could go back and change in the music video I would, because I think I could show better continuity.

    EVALUATION Q1

    •        In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms of real media conventions.

Here is my final media product. (VIDEO)

My media product develops, challenges and uses forms of real media  conventions in various ways for example my music video which was of contemporary rock genre challenges contemporary rock conventions because it has a very strong narrative (of a young lady who considers suicide due to being pregnant and a man who had just lost his home and job) unlike contemporary rock videos which usually involve the band members playing or the main artist singing or walking down a street bumping into people (the verve. bitter sweet symphony). My media product (video) further challenges contemporary rock conventions by having a narrative which involves a pregnant young lady because contemporary rock videos never have a strong narrative like mine that focus on problems people in the world face.
My media product uses forms of real media conventions by using the main artist as the narrator and character who plays the part of the observer as well as a saviour in the video. Also by having him look directly at the camera whenever he was singing.

Here is my final media product. (DIGIPAK)

My digipak is very conventional because it uses forms of real media. On the front cover is a close up shot of the main artist plus his name which is written in bold across the page in a bright colour plus the name of the album which can’t be missed on the side. With all this being said, you must bear in mind that this is a new artist so by having a close up shot of him, I am purposely advertising the new artist therefore allowing the public to familiarise with the new face so yes I definitely feel that my front cover not only uses forms of real media conventions but slightly develops it.

    <=""
I was inspired by the video named ‘yellow’ by Coldplay. What I really liked about it was the darkness which had a mellow feel to it. I felt this would be a good effect to incorporate into my video to give it a mellow feel therefore adding a bit more effect to the sad aspects of my video. To explain this further i felt that a mellow feel complements sad aspects of my video e.g. losing the job and contemplating suicide therefore allowing the audience sympathise with the characters a bit more.

I was also inspired by the video named ‘make you feel my love’ by Adele although it isn’t a contemporary rock genre it is a slow song with a slow edit which I really liked.

I was highly inspired by the video ‘Fix you’ by Coldplay this is the reason myself and my group chose to make a video to this song we felt that we could make a video that amplified (added more meaning to) the lyrics. I was influence by the visual style of the video and replicated it adding my own twist which was having various backgrounds which had lots of light.

shots from my video                                                    shots from Fix you

    My final media Product (Advert)

For my advert i could say i conformed to the forms of real media conventions because I used a5 size paper for my advert. I decided to use the profile shot image on my CD on my advert to create an obvious link between the two. During my research I found that a5 posters provide either the critics statements or tour dates but i chose to provide both information because I felt they were critical. Therefore I guess I challenged forms of real media conventions.

    Evaluation

Question 4: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Firstly i would like to say that i personally feel that my group and I have worked our utmost in producing our group video and also our individual ancillary products.

However in retrospect i think that after audience feedback there could have been a few things that i may have included to improve my complete product.

    • Firstly i think that i should have tried harder to play with the opacity levels of Tyler in 'Fix You'. The reason for this is that it will further helped my audience understand that Tyler was supposed to be an angelic like figure and not an actual human being.
    • Another thing i might change looking back is the important music element that is Tyler's guitar. I would have loved to include a shot of him playing the guitar. This would have been more entertaining for my audience. It would have also lead audience to think of an acoustic guitar to be synonymous with Tyler and continued the running theme of the guitar along with my digipak and my advert.
    • Finally i think that In relation to audience feedback i could have tried harder to make the ending of the video clearer for audiences to understand the message as although they understood the narrative they were a little disillusioned by Tyler's character.

HOW I MADE MY ADVERT (Part of EVALUATION Q3)

    • How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

This is how i used parts of media technology(quark and photoshop) in the construction of my advert.

     HOW I MADE MY ADVERT

I went back into quark then clicked on file, open, project.

I then selected the size of the page i wanted for my Advert.

I selected the picture box tool and drew out a picture box to fit the A5 page. I selected file import and chose my background that I had previously made for my didgipak in Photoshop.
    Result.
I selected the picture box tool again, drew out a picture box tool and imported my desired image. I wanted an obvious link between my Digipak and advert so I chose to put the image I had put on my CD of Keith Tyler's profile shot.
    Result

I went back into Photoshop to design my text. I opened a new file with a transparent background.
I selected the text tool, then selected the type of font I wanted .
I then selected the colour I wanted my text to be.
    Then selected my font size.

I selected the crop tool and cropped my text. This is what I was left with.

I opened up the image of Keith Tyler's profile shot to use as a template. I selected the paint bucket tool and  picked up the colour blue from the image by clicking on it.

But before I could fill in the text with the colour,  I had to change the name of the text layer  to image layer.
    I then saved my work.

I repeated these steps for other texts I made in Photoshop for my advert. These are the finished products of texts I made in photoshop.

    Went back into Quark

Selected the move tool drew the box and imported my new text .
    Result

selected the move tool again and drew out a box and imported  my new text which I had previously made in Photoshop.
    Result

Then selected file, import then chose my text I had made in Photoshop.
While holding the shift key I dragged in the edges.
Here is what I was left with
I then selected the text tool drew a text box chose my font and font size then typed in the text box.

selected the picture box tool, drew a picture box
and imported the text i had previously made in Photoshop.
    Result.
For the final part of my advert I went on the internet and saved the logos for HMV and i-Tunes to my desktop. I then drew  the picture box and imported them. I took a picture of my front cover from my digipak drew a picture box and imported it. I selected the text tool  drew out a text box, selected the font I wanted and typed. I chose to do this in Quark rather than Photoshop because I didn't want to fill my text with colour.
